CSCC Reports 2018: Cuckmere - Feb 2018
Unfortunately a planned white water trip had to be cancelled due to lack of rain. So in substitution the two Fionas, Mark, Matt, Naomi, Gavin and Dan paddled on the river Cuckmere in Sussex on 18th February. As recommended in Peter Knowles' excellent book "Pub Paddles", we launched just before high water (Eastbourne) at the very busy Seven Sisters Country Park by the local canoe club's building. Initially you are in a lagoon and we had to use some more steps to get in the main channel of the river where the tide was flooding in. We got a great deal of assistance as we paddled north towards Alfriston. The valley looked really beautiful in the sunshine and we spotted an egret and a kingfisher, amongst other birds. We reached Alfriston just before the tide turned and had a leisurely lunch in the cosy George Inn before heading back downstream with the ebbing tide. It was a very pleasant relaxing day.
