CSCC Reports 2015: Hastings - October 2015

Paul, Stephen and Dan paddled from Hastings to Camber Sands and back on 3 October.  This was Paul's first CSSC trip and his first outing in a sea kayak.  It was a real baptism of fire, because it was a 20 mile round trip, but he coped manfully.  The weather was lovely for October (so good that Dan managed a swim at lunchtime).  This is a great stretch of coastline for bird spotting and the highlights were turnstones, terns and oyster catchers.  There were clearly plenty of fish - we regularly saw the silver flash of mackerel leaping from the water.  Hastings has a bit of character, helped by the fact that it still has a working harbour with fishing boats.   It also has remarkable 'talking' car park ticket machines, which had me in stitches.  Our thanks go to Stephen for organising a great day out at the seaside.
