CSCC Reports 2012: New Year's Day Paddle - January 2012
The tide being favourable for it, this year's traditional New Year's Day paddle took the form of an out-and-back trip from Chiswick to Blackfriars Bridge, taking in some spectacular views of the classic sights of Central London from Westminster Palace to St Pauls Cathedral and everything in between. The weather was very good on the outward leg and the plan of getting to Blackfriars Bridge before the tide turned against us worked admirably. At the South Western end of the bridge we found some very slippery stone stairs leading up to Doggetts pub where we had lunch. On leaving Doggetts we found the weather had changed considerably for the worse - very heavy rain had already washed the slippery mud off the stairs but we had to paddle most of the way back to Chiswick in the downpour. However nothing could dampen our spirits and I think we would all join in thanking Eleanor for organising a very memorable paddle and a thoroughly enjoyable start to the New Year. People who went were: Eleanor and Chris in an open boat and in kayaks, Marc B, Stephen, Colette, Tom D, Hilary (out), Peter (back) and Amelia (not paddling).
