CSCC Reports 2009: River Arun - August 2009
I must confess that I had not heard of the River Arun before Alex suggested paddling down it, but it is a beautiful little river which meanders gently through rural Sussex. Alex, Luis, Hils, Joanna, Chris and I paddled north with the tide from old Pulborough bridge on Sunday 2nd August. The water was too shallow and narrow for motorboats and so those paddling canoes or rowing boats had it to themselves. The river is lined with reeds, water lillies etc. and has a lovely wild feel. I have never seen so many damselflies and dragonflies. The Arun is perfect for a relaxing paddle on a sunny summer afternoon.

Pete took over from Hils at a footbridge and shortly afterwards we turned round and headed back down towards Pulborough again. We all gathered for a late lunch in the garden at the White Hart pub at Stopham Bridge. The local real ales there were excellent and the light lunches also very good.
The car parking at Pulborough bridge was free and we had no difficulties finding spaces, although there weren't actually that many.
