CSCC Reports 2015: River Severn - September 2015

Stewart, Gavin and Dan went for a canoe-camping expedition on the River Severn in Shropshire on 20/21 September.  We paddled in Canadian canoes from the Riverside Inn in Cound to Ironbridge on day one and from Ironbridge to Hampton Loade on day two.  The ironbridge looked great in the sunshine and we enjoyed Jackfield rapids so much that we went down it twice.  The tourist highlights were the Severn valley railway steam engines and the funicular in Bridgenorth (apparently, the oldest and steepest in England). We had some close sightings of kingfishers, egrets, herons and a type of bird I've never seen before (must dig out my book of birds).  Irongorge campsite was small, but nice and friendly and our meals in the Riverside Inn and the White hart were delicious.  Our thanks go to Stewart for organising the trip.
