Barnes Bridge to Wapping and Back – August 2019

Sunday 4 August when we went from Barnes Bridge to Wapping and back.
Gavin organised the trip and Sarah and Dan joined him.  The river was generally quiet due to the road closures for the Prudential cycle ride, but as usual it was busy near the piers in central London. The catamarans and RIB’s churned up the water, making it trickier for us to stop and pose for photos!

After a closer encounter with a speeding police boat as we crossed the river, we had an excellent lunch in the Prospect of Whitby. Pleasingly we were the first through the doors at noon!

On the return journey we encountered the company that takes paying guests to paddle past the landmarks.  It is a testament to their skill as guides that they avoid accidents, because this part of the river is not easy to paddle.

Our thanks go Gavin for organising the trip so well, particularly in his choice of tides.
